Top 10 of 2010 Medical Technology Award

The iO-Flex System named in Top 10 Medical DevicesSAN JOSE, Calif., February 11, 2011—Baxano, Inc. today announced that the iO- Flex® System has been selected “Top 10 of 2010” by Medical Device Developments.

The editorial board of Medical Device Developments selected the ten technologies that have generated the most excitement in 2010. The publication chose the iO-Flex® System from all medical devices commercialized in 2010 due to its innovative design and potential market impact as a tool used in the surgical decompression of lumbar spinal stenosis.

“We believe that the iO-Flex® System fills a really unmet clinical need for spine surgeons. The iO-Flex System can be used minimally-invasively and there are really no other tools out there that do what this product does to access and remove impinging tissue without causing further destabilization of the spine,” said Mike Wallace, Senior Vice President of Research, Development and Operations of Baxano, Inc. “This award helps further validate the patient care need for effective solutions such as the iO-Flex® System in today’s cost-effective healthcare environment.”

About Baxano, Inc.

Based in San Jose, CA, Baxano, Inc., is focused on developing innovative solutions that restore spine function, preserve healthy tissue, and enable a better quality of life for patients. Baxano, Inc. is the developer of the iO-Flex® System which is an advancement in surgical technology for central, lateral recess and foraminal lumbar stenosis. This unique technology uses thin, flexible instruments through an open exposure or a minimally invasive tube to provide precision lumbar decompression from the “inside out” (“iO”). This “over the wire” approach allows surgeons to address targeted impinging tissue with a non-implant, direct decompression, while preserving facet joint integrity. Up to four nerve roots may be decompressed through a single-point access using this system.
